Heart Shaped Giant Cookie

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (240 ml) plus 2 tablespoons (30 ml) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter softened
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup (80 ml) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 3/4 cups (420 ml) chocolate chips divided

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 375° F (190°C). Grease and wax-paper-line an 8 1/2 or 9-inch (23 cm) heart-shaped pan.
  2. Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt in a small bowl.
  3. Beat the butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract in a large mixer bowl until creamy. Beat in the egg. Gradually beat in the flour mixture. Stir in 1 cup (240 ml) morsels, then spread into the prepared pan.
  4. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove to a wire rack to cool completely.
  5. Microwave the remaining morsels in a small, microwave-safe bowl on medium-high (70%) power for 1 minute, then stir. The morsels may retain some of their shape. If necessary, microwave at additional 10- to 15-second intervals, stirring until melted. Spread over the cookie.
